Pentana Solutions hosted its 7th annual Hackathon in October 2019. This year was our first global Hackathon where Pentana Solutions’ employees formed teams across three continents Australia, Asia and Europe to participate in this event.

The theme of this years Hackathon was ‘Hack the Planet’. Similar to previous Hackathons, this was an opportunity for our people to get their creative juices flowing. This could be done by developing an idea, enhancing an existing product or innovating something completely new to our business. Given the theme, this year had a strong environmental focus whereby teams were encouraged to develop an idea that also made a positive impact on the environment, and the judging criteria reflected this too.

Boasting our highest participation rate to date, 24 teams and 94 hackers across the globe had 48 hours to create, present and pitch their ideas to a regional judging panel and their peers. It was incredible to see the excitement and buzz around all the ideas and the amazing innovation that came to life as a result.

Our judges were astounded at the quality and level of sophistication that all teams brought to the table, making it particularly difficult to select winners. It was an absolute fight to the finish as our regional winners competed for the title of Global First Prize.

A huge congratulations to all our regional and global winners, all our hackers and judging panel across the world. The next Hackathon is sure to be bigger and better, and we can’t wait!
